During my internship at Ascentec Engineering I designed a pneumatic press to prevent part warping after heat treatment. The team had been manually placing 200lbs of weight on top of the parts.
Purchasing a press would have cost $500, while this design made use of scrap on hand, costing only $100 in pneumatic components.
Mechanical Design:
- 400lbs of pressure based on shop air pressure and cylinder diameter
- Designed in Fusion360 and parts manufactured out of steel using waterjet
- Added damper to drastically slow down cylinders for safety
