Every morning I make myself oatmeal by measuing out oats, protien powder, crushed nuts, and dried fruit. The process takes all of two minutes, but I thought it would be a fun project to automate and learn a new CAD program. And, if I can save myself two minutes every morning surely I would make up the time saved eventually. I also wanted to learn about about project touchscreen implimentation, and graphic interface design.
There are four bins, each with an auger screw driven by a geared DC motor. Each bin also has a flap which seals over the exit to keep ingredients fresh. The distribution of ingredients is metered by a loadcell under the dish. Due to limited I/O (eletrical connection points) on the touchscreen controller I have an additional microcontroller which communicates with the touchscreen via I2C protocol. (A common way for instruments to talk to each other.)
